It started with a room full of young people in Sydney and a word that said what they hoped for. Twenty-eight years later that word has been sung in stadiums, living rooms and churches around the world. This is the story of how a name became a gathering.
UNITED was never meant to be a band with a frontman. It was a youth gathering that wrote its own songs, with musicians, writers and worship leaders who rotated in and out as they grew up and as new ones stepped forward. The name was the point: many people, one song.
Its first recordings were made live, in the room, with the crowd as part of the mix. That habit of capturing people together stayed with UNITED for its whole first two decades, through more than twenty releases and tours that crossed oceans.
In 2002, for To the Ends of the Earth, founding drummer Luke Munns designed the UNITED logotype: the word set in square, engineered letters. It became the face of every season that followed. Below, each point of light stands for someone who sang along. Press Unite.
UNITED has always been bigger than any one person. These are some of the musicians, writers and worship leaders who carried it through its first two decades.
Founding member Luke Munns is carrying the UNITED name, mark and spirit into a new, independent chapter: nights of worship that bring people back into one room. New songs, new music videos and gatherings in cities that asked for them. Honour the history. Build the future.
